How do you grow Popcorn??

Well....it takes a special seed, not from the corn you buy in the grocery store. Popcorn is actually an ornamental corn, not a sweet corn.  Once planted- we wait for germination and then 100 days later we can harvest it from the stalk, shuck it, and dry it  on the cobb. We test it daily by popping batches until perfection. Once dry, we put it through a sheller (crank by hand) and package it to sell.
Makes perfect timing for Thanksgiving and Christmas treats and gifts.

If you have special bottle you can order Homegrown Popcorn by the pound and fill your own to give as a gift or keep for yourself to enjoy.
Thankyou to all who purchased Homegrown Popcorn  last year.
2010  was our first year and what a great learning experience it was.  You have been very gracious in sharing your popcorn stories and gave us confidence to try it again.  Unfortunately 2011 was a poor season so we had nothing to share. The new seeds  for 2012 arrived April 20th. I'll keep you posted.

Why grow popcorn?
I LOVE POPCORN!!! When I was a kid, my father grew popcorn and dried it in a wheel barrow. It was so delicious and tender, I couldn't forget that memorable flavor.
You can't compare the fresh taste and crispyness when grown in your own field, harvested with friends, dried, then cooked the old fashioned way over a stove.
Popcorn brings people together and brings back memories and traditions
for many people.  Did you know that the Native Americans brought popped corn to the Pilgrims for Thanksgiving?
